Cynthia plays Harmonium and is excited to share her love and practice of chanting with others. Anyone who would like to join her, learn some basic chants, and bring/play an instrument is welcome! You do not need to be an expert.

We also invite, welcome and support Kirtan musicians
who would like to offer devotional music at Sandwich Mountain Community Kirtan.

Kirtan at BodhiHeart Yurt

What to expect:

- We begin our time together with brief silent meditation before Kirtan. You will be guided in a call-and-reponse singing of mantras and other devotional music. Each chant will be followed by a short period of meditative silence.

- Kirtan songs are simple and repetitive. You do not need to be a “singer” to chant. Just bring your voice & open heart. During kirtan, all voices & hearts meld into one.

- Some have experienced kirtan before, and others are new to it. To facilitate ease in learning chants, we will provide some printed material and meanings or stories connected with the mantras.

- There are many ways to participate and you are invited to do any of the following—chant, sing, get up and move or dance, be silent or do yoga if inclined, all while soaking in the heart-opening sounds and healing vibrations of kirtan.

- For your comfort: We have chairs, backjacks, zafus, and yoga blankets;
bring your water bottle, wear comfortable clothing & warm socks.

Do you have some musical experience, a chant to share, or would like to offer something to our community kirtan?

If you play basic chords on guitar, or can beat a drum rhythmically, it would be a wonderful addition! Any expertise beyond that is a special gift you can share.

We have rhythm instruments available, including:
Cajon drum, Djembes, Khartals,
Finger Cymbals, Tingshas, & Shakers

Everyone is invited to participate, however you would like

Play an instrument, Chant, Dance, Listen...

Kirtan is often referred to as Bhakti Yoga, the devotional practice and awakened consciousness of unconditional love and unity of all as one.

Kirtan is simple, joyful and powerful meditation.

It is the ebb and flow of healing sound
—mantras, ancient chants, dev
otional music—
and all voices merging into One.

It awakens us to our hearts,
and our connection with one another.

The beauty of Kirtan is that everyone can participate
—with voice, movement, or stillness.

And w
ith an open mind and heart, your soul and body
will respond with deeper knowing and delight.
                                                                                                                                  ~ Cynthia Scrimshaw
